When your esophagus gets some items from your stomach, acid reflux happens.it is also called gastroesophageal reflux or acid regurgitation.

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease or GERD is a condition in which you get conditions of acid reflux twice a week.

GERD affects about 20% of the population in the United States of America according to NIDDK.

It is compulsory to treat acid reflux and take it seriously. If not, it can cause serious complications.

Symptoms:

There are various symptoms of acid reflux that can alert you of this disease. Here are some of them.

  • You will feel burning feeling in your chest that is known as heartburn. This burning feeling can move towards your neck.
  • You will feel a bitter taste in your mouth.
  • You often vomit.
  • You will feel difficulty in swallowing.
  • It may cause asthma or chronic cough.

How to Treat Acid Reflux:

It is recommended to visit a doctor whenever you find these symptoms in you. Your doctor may change your diet, lifestyle or other behaviors.

Some medications may include:

  • H2 receptor blockers
  • PPIs
  • Antacids

Foods to Prevent:

Some foods can trigger this condition and make it worse. But for some people only. These foods include:

  • Spicy Foods
  • Citrus fruit
  • Tomato
  • Garlic’
  • Alcohol
  • Tea
  • High-fat foods
  • Chocolate
  • Pineapple
  • Onion
  • Mint
  • Coffee

And there may be others depending on the condition of the victim.

Foods to Eat:

Some Foods are considered good to prevent acid reflux and GERD. Consuming these foods can aid in combating this disease. Some Lifestyle changes also recommended preventing acid reflux.

Lifestyle Changes:

  • Quit Smoking
  • Eat smaller meals
  • Quit Alchohol
  • Avoid laying after eating
  • Avoid foods that trigger your symptoms.

Recommended Foods:

  • Vegetables
  • Egg Whites
  • Bone Broth
  • Oatmeal
  • Noncitrus fruits

The aforementioned remedies and lifestyle changes are recommended but don’t rely on them only. Visit the doctor and follow his/her instructions to prevent this disease properly.
